As the certified lymphatic massage therapist at Northern Center for Plastic Surgery, I get to work with patients during one of the most important parts of their journey—recovery. Dr. Capuano’s skill creates beautiful results, but what happens after surgery plays a huge role in how those results turn out.
Every day, I see the difference that regular lymphatic massage makes. Let me share what I've learned.
-Why Lymphatic Massage Matters
After surgery, your body naturally responds with swelling and fluid buildup. That's normal—it's how your body heals. But without help, that fluid can stick around, causing prolonged swelling, discomfort, and even affecting your final results.
Lymphatic massage is a gentle technique that helps move fluid through your body's natural drainage system. It's like giving your body a helping hand to do what it already wants to do.
-The Difference I See
I work with patients who come to all their appointments and patients who skip sessions or come inconsistently. The difference is night and day.
**Patients who come regularly:**
- See swelling go down much faster
- Feel less tight and uncomfortable
- Get smoother, more even results
- Have healthier-looking skin
- Get back to normal life sooner
**Patients who miss appointments:**
- Can deal with swelling that won't seem to go away
- Feel stiff and uncomfortable longer
- Sometimes develop lumpy or uneven areas
- Need extra sessions later to fix problems that could have been avoided
It's More Than Just Physical
I've also noticed that patients who come regularly feel less stressed about their recovery. They have a place to ask questions and get reassurance that everything is going well. That peace of mind matters just as much as the physical healing.
My Advice
If you're planning surgery or recovering now, think of lymphatic massage as a must-have—not something extra. Dr. Capuano and I work together to give you the best results possible, and that includes helping your body heal the right way.
Stick to your appointment schedule. Show up for yourself. You'll be so glad you did.
