Dysport toxin therapy is a cosmetic injection that temporarily improves the appearance of lines and wrinkles caused by repetitive contraction of facial muscles including frown lines between the eyebrows, crow’s feet, forehead wrinkles, bands on the neck, and wrinkles and frown lines around your mouth.
The toxin is a purified substance that comes from a bacterium, and is known as botulinum toxin type A, which blocks muscular nerve signals. It works beneath the skin’s surface to target specific underlying facial muscles. When these muscles contract, they cause your skin to furrow and fold resulting in the appearance of wrinkles. Dr. Capuano will inject the toxin into these muscles, temporarily reducing their activity, and smoothing out the lines they cause.
Dysport can also be used to raise your eyebrows giving you the effect of a mini brow lift. By lifting the eyebrows, the upper eyelid skin is also elevated reducing the hooding that can occur from excess eyelid skin. These injections can additionally be used to lift the corners of your mouth and reduce the appearance of frowning. By weakening the Depressor Anguli Oris muscle, which normally pulls the corners of our mouth down, we get a natural elevation to the corners of our lips because of the pull from the lip elevator muscles. It is also useful for treating migraine headaches.
This treatment is right for you if you feel that the lines between your eyes and on your forehead make you look older or make you look like you are sad, tired or angry. It is also helpful if you have wrinkles on the outside of your eyes when you smile or squint (crow’s feet), if your eyelid skin seems to be hanging a little more over your eyes than it used to, if you have noticed vertical lines on your neck or frown lines and wrinkles around your mouth. Injection with botulinum toxin is one of the safest and fastest ways to reduce facial and neck wrinkles available.
Botulinum toxin therapy can also be combined with other cosmetic skin procedures including injectable fillers, skin care systems, laser therapy, chemical peels, automated microneedling and microdermabrasion to further optimize your outcome.
When you arrive for your procedure, a potent topical anesthetic cream is placed on your face at the location where the botulinum toxin will be injected. A tiny needle is then used to inject the toxin. Dr. Capuano performs the injections himself, and he is remarkably experienced in the art of pinpointing the specific muscles within your face which need to be weakened to reduce wrinkles, while preserving your natural facial expressions.
